With Summer in full swing, now is the perfect time to go foraging for seasonal wild edibles! Come join us on Sunday 25 June to explore what’s growing on the beautiful woodlands and meadows on the outskirts of Belfast.
Your guide is Clinical Herbalist and Registered Nutritional Therapist Sarah Hawkins who will take you on a 2hr tour of nature’s pantry at the stunning National Trust site of Minnowburn which is also home to Ned’s Meadow – a bee and butterfly haven with lots of wild flowers.
Foraging reconnects us to the rhythms of nature and to the wise traditions of our Ancestors who knew how to make the most of the wild plants as food, medicine and craft. During this walk you will discover how to identify plants, what to forage at this time of year sustainably, and how to cook with and preserve them in your kitchens to make delicious new recipes you’ll want to share with friends and family again and again.
As a registered herbalist, Sarah will also discuss the medicinal properties of the plants and how they have been used as medicine, both past and present!
So what are you waiting for? Come and join us to find out about what type of plants, or “weeds” as you may call them, grow around gardens, parks and woodlands and how you can harvest and use them as food.
Provided you can bring a cup and some hot water, wild and medicinal herbal infusions will be available!
Please read the FAQ regarding our events as it will answer most of your questions.
